Kohi Point House
Architect: Adam Taylor Architecture
Builder: Simon Linton

An architecturally designed home located above Ohope beach, this building has a phenomenal aspect down to the water. Built into the hillside the bond with the environment is vital – consequently the exterior is quiet with Nero black cladding, hunkering the building into the slopes. The architect ran full height joinery to accentuate the view – which we then expanded on – allowing panoramas from key vantage points such as the bath. We were excited to use specialist timber Forte Flooring - their newly released product, which we referenced throughout the property. We used lots of natural products – American Ash timber, 100% chunky wool carpet, Taj Mahal natural stone in the kitchen and Travertine tiles in the bathroom. We picked out feature areas, that were subtle but impactful – the handmade tiled walls in the powder room create amazing texture, paired with brushed nickel tapware and handmade wall lights from a ceramicist in Matamata. The custom-made coffee table references the stone on the island, a Simon James Parisian pendant is impressive without distracting from the view. A favourite detail is the timber wardrobe that spans the width of the bedroom, with additional storage in the oversized headboard.
“Kathrine is so easy to work with and she immediately recognised my tastes. She worked in a way that gave me choices without feeling overwhelmed. Kath dealt with suppliers directly (getting useful discounts) and dealt on my behalf with any issues. I now have a beautiful house with quality materials and furniture that provides exactly the feel that I want. I could not have achieved this without Katherine’s ideas, resources and connections.”
