Muricata House

I was commissioned to revitalize the first floor kitchen, dining and living area of this 1970s home. Despite being sound structurally this dwelling was outdated and the layout disjointed. By removing a wall between the kitchen and lounge the area became open plan, and these two vital zones were connected. Next the existing kitchen was removed; Ceaserstone benchtops, new cabinetry, appliance’s and tapware transformed this hub. A beautiful Butlers sink is a stunning feature piece, and handle-free cabinetry gives a sleek, modern edge. The owners were thrilled by the engineered timber flooring and an acoustic underlay was installed to limit the noise transferred between floors. Fresh paint, shutters and gorgeous linen curtains and blinds complete the feel of beach luxe. Final touches lay in the lighting update: the amazing Muuto Ambit Rail pendant over the dining table, and pendant lighting in the stairwell, complete the transformation.

“Kathrine McDonald Design (KMD) was exceptional in every way from the start of our project to the finish, the end result exceeded our expectations. Kathrine understood our needs and made us comfortable enough that we trusted her to take upon the task while we were overseas for a month. Kathrine is a true professional and has a genuine love for what she does. Her attention to detail is second to none! All of our queries were addressed in a thorough and timely manner. She sourced and managed quality contractors and kept them on schedule and to budget. Katherine is such a pleasure to work with, she has flare, impeccable taste and a positive attitude. She listened to our ideas and worked with us to create our perfect home. We highly recommend KMD!” - V & P Semple-Ryan
