With the client based in Sydney and the build in Gisborne, this was a hugely collaborative project. The brief was for a high-end home that could be used for New Zealand holidays but with the option to rent out for events – with this the expectation was a luxury finish in keeping with the incredible location. The lounge area maximises the vista with fully retractable doors, which seamlessly disappear into walls. These deliver the ultimate indoor/outdoor flow onto huge decks complete with lounge and dining furnishings. The main bathroom was a focal area with a round bath, integrated ceiling rain head and beautiful Como Charcoal limestone tiles. It was vital that the kitchen was both super stylish and robust; the porcelain stone on the island and benchtops is both heat/stain/scratch resistant and durable, and the island on bench extractor, is again a practical aspect transformed to a feature. Lighting was a vital design element throughout this home, both natural and through beautifully crafted light fittings. The design led feel is carried throughout with points of reference: 100% pure chunky loop wool carpet alongside the engineered timber flooring, an elegant, veined Mojito marble integrated stone basin in the powder room and a showpiece bar integrated into the kitchen cabinetry.
